Baby and Toddler Sleep Support
One of the biggest concerns for new families is infant sleep in the first twelve months of life. Conflicting advice around sleep and infant feeding means new parents struggle to understand their new baby.
About
Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC) Institute, formerly known as the Possums approach, is an evidence-based method developed after years of research and experience by Dr. Pamela Douglas originating from Brisbane, Queensland. This holistic approach addresses the entire family dynamic, offering a comprehensive solution to infant sleep issues. Unlike many conventional first-wave sleep solutions, NDC integrates various scientific disciplines to support families effectively. Dr Pamela Douglas has authored The Discontented Little Baby Book which many families find useful.
My Approach
NDC provides support to parents during the first year of their child's life, incorporating principles from evolutionary biology, breastfeeding science, sleep science, neuroscience, attachment psychology, and acceptance and commitment therapy. By addressing these interconnected areas collectively, we help manage parental expectations and improve overall family well-being.
Key Areas of Focus
NDC approaches infant sleep through five interrelated areas:
Perinatal and Infant Mental Health
Infant Sensory Development
Sleep
Unsettled Infant Behaviours
Clinical Breastfeeding Support and Lactation Science
