Ned's Birth Story
/Our beautiful baby boy, Ned was born on 29/07 weighing 2.95kg. We love him so much and are going well.
I was 10 days over, I had chosen to cancel my induction and do the well-being checks instead. I went into spontaneous labour that night in the end so was glad I had cancelled.
Labour and birth were hard but on the whole, a positive experience. It was an 18 hour labour, 10 at home 8 in hospital. The TENS machine and breathing were what got me through at home, and Chris, even just to lean on. In hospital I had the gas which was amazing respite for me. Contractions were intense and all in my lower back because Ned was posterior. I ended up fully dilated and pushing for over an hour but he wouldn't turn or get over my pelvic bone. In the end I went to theatre for a spinal block so the doctors could manually turn him and then deliver using forceps. This obviously wasn't our ideal birth but the staff were amazing and consulted with me every step of the way, giving Chris and I the information and allowing us to make the decisions. They said because I had laboured so effectively, he was so low so they were able to turn him and avoid a C section. So that was a win for us!
We were so glad we'd done the course so we understood everything when it came to making decisions. We felt confident and informed. The staff were great at explaining things too and giving me options.
Thanks again for having us in your course and helping facilitate a positive birth for our beautiful boy, Ned.
